Area scan camera
The design and construction of RasaAndishan's second area scan camera began in January 2017. This camera uses a progressive CCD as its detector. Its resolution is higher than that of the RA-ASC-0229, the resolution of this camera will be increased to 1.45 megapixels. This camera for PIV (particle image velocimetry) applications is being designed and built, although the camera can also be used in other applications. Its maximum frame rate is 8.1 frames per second.
Unlike a line scan camera, an area scan camera builds a complete image of its field of view in every frame. A progressive CCD sensor reads all the lines of the image in one pass. That is why moving objects are captured without any offset between odd and even lines. This matters a lot for applications such as PIV.
This camera is called the RA-ASC-0267. Its design and production was completed in July 2017. Its CCD sensor has 1360 × 1024 pixels. Each pixel is 4.65 μm. The sensor measures 7.60 × 6.20 mm. It is the largest CCD among RasaAndishan area scan cameras.
This area scan camera suits microscopy and sample documentation. Low-light lab imaging is another use. You can use it to measure the dimensions of stationary parts. All RasaAndishan cameras also support external triggering.
CMOS and CCD are the two main types of sensor in area scan cameras. CMOS sensors use less power. CCDs, on the other hand, give better image quality. The RA-ASC-0267 is CCD-based and is a very good choice for specialized high-sensitivity lab applications. The camera's 8-bit image reaches the computer over USB at 480 Mbit/s.
