Thanks to the design of version 13 of the hardware driver board for Line Scan Cameras, in addition to a 60% improvement in the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the RA-LSC-1209-I camera, the camera's data acquisition speed has also increased 1.9-fold.

What does better SNR in a line scan camera give you?

The signal-to-noise ratio shows how much stronger the real signal is than the electronic noise. The higher this ratio, the more clearly you see faint details in the image. In surface inspection, these small details are often the sign of a defect. Faster data acquisition also lets you monitor faster production lines.

The RA-LSC-1209 is a 2048-pixel monochrome line scan camera. Its square pixels are 14 × 14 μm and sit on an active length of 28.672 mm. The camera's line rate is 7945 lines per second. Each line is read in about 126 μs. Its dynamic range is 2000:1, and data is recorded with a 16-bit converter.

The camera is sensitive from 400 to 1100 nm. So you can also inspect with near-infrared light. The camera works from ⁦−25⁩ to ⁦+65⁩ °C. We recommend it for surface inspection of fast-moving sheet and strip, and for width and thickness measurement of moving products.

Unlike an area scan camera, a line scan camera images only one line. That is why it is much faster and better suited to image processing of moving objects. To build a 2D image, the object and the camera must move relative to each other. Edge and position sensing for web guiding is another application of the RA-LSC-1209. Free consultation and a three-year unconditional warranty come with all our line scan cameras.
