Increasing the camera frame rate
The frame rate of the RA-LSC-1707-I camera has quadrupled. We achieved this by overclocking the sensor. In a line scan camera, the camera's frame rate is the same as its line rate. The signal-to-noise ratio also improved 1.7 times.

Camera frame rate and industrial use
This 7450-pixel camera has improved hardware and a new housing. You can use it in medium-speed industrial applications of up to about 2000 lines per second. Monochrome imaging of stone and glass is one of its applications. A higher camera frame rate means you can image faster objects without stretching.
This monochrome line scan camera has 7450 pixels. Each pixel is 4.7 μm. The camera reads up to 1968 lines per second. Its dynamic range is 1800:1, and a 16-bit converter reads the signal.
A line scan camera captures only one line at a time. As the object passes the camera, the lines sit side by side and a 2D image is formed. To learn more about this technology, read the Line scan camera article on Wikipedia.
The main job of this camera is width measurement, thickness measurement and surface inspection on medium-speed lines. With a 350 mm field of view, each pixel sees 47 μm of the object. In width measurement, each line is a separate measurement. So the conveyor speed does not affect accuracy. The high dynamic range helps faint scratches and stains stand out from the background.
Reading out each 7450-pixel line takes at least 508 microseconds. The pixels are also small, so you need enough light within this short time. At maximum speed, the scene lighting must be sufficient within this time. If you want to build a 2D image, the object must move forward by one pixel in each line period. With a 350 mm field of view, the object speed should not exceed about 92 millimeters per second. The -I version of this camera does not need an external power supply. Data is transferred over USB at 480 megabits per second.
The camera's sensor is sensitive up to 1000 nm. So you can also use near-infrared light. See the spectral response and full specifications on the RA-LSC-1707 7450-pixel line scan camera page.
