2700-pixel colour line scan camera, model RA-LSC-2253
The RA-LSC-2253 line scan camera is a 2700-pixel color line scan camera that captures up to 2990 lines per second. You can use it for color imaging of moving objects. This section shows the camera's spectral response, parametric specifications, demo software features, and specifications.
Selection guide
Color web and sheet inspection and color sorting at medium speed
This color camera has three separate sensor lines for R, G and B, each with 2,700 pixels of 10.5 μm over 28.35 mm. Large pixels mean more light per line, and that is what lets the RA-LSC-2253 run at 2,990 lines/s. We recommend it for color inspection of paper, textiles and film, and for color sorting on medium-speed lines.

All three color channels are captured at once, and in a 270 mm field of view each pixel sees 100 μm of the product. To keep the image from being stretched or squashed, the belt should run no faster than about 0.3 m/s.
Color shifts and misregistration on printed work show up as differences between the 8-bit channels. Match the line rate to the web speed and you get an image with no stretching.
You get a continuous color image of moving paper, fabric or colored film. Defects that differ from the background only in color reveal themselves when the channels are compared.
Move the document under the camera at a controlled speed and you get a color image at 100 μm across 270 mm. Exposure goes up to 71 minutes, so static scanning in low light is possible too.
Each pixel is 110 μm², about 5 times a 4.7 μm pixel. A bigger pixel collects more light in the same 334 μs exposure, which is why the camera can run three color lines at up to 2,990 lines/s. For an undistorted image, the surface must move one pixel's worth per line period. If each pixel sees 100 μm, the web should move no faster than about 0.3 m/s. In a 540 mm field, where each pixel sees 200 μm, the limit rises to about 0.6 m/s. The sensor's dynamic range is 1750:1. The sensor responds only from 400 to 700 nm, the visible range, which suits jobs where color as the eye sees it is what counts. At the full line rate the data comes to about 194 Mbit/s, which 480 Mbit/s USB handles comfortably.
The focal length is roughly working distance × 28.35 mm ÷ field-of-view width. With three color lines, pick a lens with low chromatic aberration. The white light also has to be stable so the three channels stay balanced. At full speed the exposure is about 334 μs, and the light must give all three lines enough signal in that time. The longest exposure is 71 minutes. The -I version includes an FPGA, gain and offset adjustment, a 3 × 8-bit color ADC and 480 Mbit/s USB, and needs no external power. If finer pixels and higher speed matter more to you, look at the RA-LSC-2566: 3 × 5,340 pixels of 5.25 μm and 4,536 lines/s.
