Iranian 2.3-megapixel license plate recognition camera
The Iranian 2.3-megapixel license plate recognition camera, model RA-ASC-0249-I, was designed in June 2026 with a new architecture to optimise specialized surveillance and traffic applications.
- Image sensor: Uses a sensor family from Exmor Sony in 1/1.2-inch format.
- This camera's pixels are 5.8 micrometers, so they collect more signal in low light at night or in cloudy weather and give a lower-noise image.
- Resolution: Standard image output of WUXGA for capturing fine detail.
- Field of view: the sensor is large, so with the same lens you get a wider field of view than with smaller sensors.
- Frame rate: Stable imaging at 30 frames per second (30Hz) with very precise timing.
- Data interface: Supports the USB 3.0 protocol for high-bandwidth transfer of large volumes of data.
- Power architecture: A Bus-Powered (power over the cable), which means you no longer need an external power supply.
Target applications: This technical configuration makes the product an ideal choice for license plate recognition (ANPR) and intelligent traffic control (ITS) applications, which require high accuracy in capturing both moving and still images.

Automatic license plate recognition has two main parts. The camera captures an image of the vehicle. Then image processing software extracts the plate characters from the image. The quality of the input image plays an important role in the accuracy of the result.
The RA-ASC-0249-I license plate camera is an area scan camera. Unlike a line scan camera, an area scan camera builds a complete image of the field of view in every frame. All RasaAndishan cameras support an external trigger. With this feature, you can synchronize image capture with a passing vehicle. License plate reading, along with particle image velocimetry and machine vision, is one of the applications of RasaAndishan area scan cameras.
